COVID-19: Help with myGOV

Accessing myGov from overseas

Existing myGov Account holders

While overseas, you can still sign in to myGov. However, for security reasons, you will need to sign in with a code sent by SMS, and:

  • use the same mobile phone number registered to their myGov account
  • be able to get the code by SMS, while outside Australia
  • connect to a mobile phone network compatible with their phone service provider.

If you can't get SMS messages while overseas, you won't be able to sign in to your myGov account and will need to create a new myGov Account.

Therefore, before Australians travel, Services Australia recommend Australians change how they sign in to use the myGov Code Generator app.

Overseas users wanting to set up a myGov Account

Australian overseas without an existing myGov account can create an account if they have a current email address. Once you have created an account, you can download the myGov Code Generator app to update your sign-in option to use security codes.

To link your myGov Account to member services i.e. Australian Taxation Office (ATO) you will need to provide the required information to confirm your identity and link your online account.
